General Description: The Wilmot Dam creates Lake Gardiner. Water from Lake Gardiner travels via a pipeline to Lake Cethana, hence the river only flows well when the dam is spilling or after heavy rain. From Spellmans Bridge the river begins to fall quickly. After numerous good rapids, a hard grade 3 is approached. This accompanies a right hand turn in the river. At high levels there is a weir stopper on the left. It can be avoided on the right. Directly after this stopper the pace of the river quickens as it weaves into a mass of large boulders. This is the "Rock Garden". Both left and right portages are difficult, but view the rapid from the right bank. Any walkout should be attempted on the eastern bank. The first half of the trip would be difficult for a walkout, since the bank is steep and the bush is dense. A piggy back to the lower reaches would probably be a wiser move.
